Shoe it All! review

Remember kicking your shoes off playground swings and pretending you’d invented aviation? Shoe it all! turns that childhood nonsense into a full game. Sadly, it also demonstrates how quickly a decent joke can become an entire evening’s entertainment, provided nobody involved has anything better to do. It’s cheerful, loud and immediately understandable. It is also about as deep as a puddle outside a train station.

Gaming Heaven

The controls are simple enough for anyone to grasp. Build momentum on the swing, release the shoe and aim for targets, windows, vending machines or whatever else the developers have decided deserves footwear-based punishment. The physics are satisfying, and watching objects explode, topple and ragdoll across the screen can produce a proper chuckle.

The colourful presentation, rock music and ridiculous later challenges add some charm. Unlockable stages, secret objectives and increasingly daft shoe types provide a reason to replay levels. It is accessible, harmless fun, and children will probably enjoy it. There, that’s the compliments dealt with.

Gaming Hell

Unfortunately, the entire game is built around one joke: throw a shoe at something. Once the novelty wears off, there is very little underneath. The objectives merely rearrange the same activity, while the short campaign can be finished in a couple of hours. Replaying everything for better scores stretches the experience, but not enough to disguise the lack of substance.

The levels become more chaotic rather than more interesting. Bosses, floating pipes and strange targets may look amusing, but they do not meaningfully expand the gameplay. Extra content locked behind stars or additional purchases feels less like rewarding progression and more like being charged for the privilege of continuing to throw footwear.

Final Judgement

Shoe it all! is a funny idea that has been inflated into a game-sized product. It delivers a few satisfying explosions, then runs out of things to say and starts shouting.
