If you’ve ever wanted to swing a sword, fire a cannon, and solve rudimentary puzzles while dressed like a nautical fashion disaster, Trident’s Tale might be your next favourite thing. This swashbuckling action-platformer stars a plucky captain named Ocean who is, thankfully, more competent than his name suggests. What follows is a journey across sea and land in search of the legendary Storm Trident…
Gaming Heaven
There’s genuine charm to be found here. The world is vivid, full of lush islands, lively crew members, and surprisingly decent water physics. Ship battles are chaotic fun, with a satisfying “boom” each time you remember which button fires the cannon. Combat is simplified to the point of feeling considerate; you won’t need a PhD in combo memorisation. The magic system adds flair, and your ever-expanding crew bring personality and passive aggression in equal measure.
Crafting is refreshingly low-stress – you can knock together potions, weapons, or ship parts without needing to manage a full-time inventory spreadsheet. Exploration is encouraged, secrets abound, and the sheer amount of colour is enough to sear your corneas in a delightful way.

Gaming Hell
Movement is occasionally reminiscent of piloting a shopping trolley down a flight of stairs. Jumping between platforms feels more like an act of faith than skill. Land combat suffers from lock-on issues, with dodging best described as “aspirational”. And yes, it feels like a PS3 game in a PS5 coat, but at least it’s a nice coat.

Final Judgement
Trident’s Tale is the playable equivalent of a pirate-themed holiday park: a bit rough around the edges, but loaded with personality, adventure, and entirely too much rope. A charming mess – highly recommended.
